Qatar urges Russia, Ukraine to seek peaceful means

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday called on all parties with regard to the Russia-Ukraine crisis to exercise restraint and resolve the dispute through constructive dialogue and diplomatic methods. He reiterated the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, and cautioned against actions that would lead to further escalation.
The Amir emphasized this in a phone call he received from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday morning during which briefed the Amir on the latest developments in the region. The Amir also stressed the need to keep the humanitarian situation as a top priority, ensuring the safety of civilians. He affirmed Qatar’s position and keenness on the UN Charter and the well-established principles of international law, including obligations under the Charter to settle international disputes by peaceful means, and commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani held yesterday two phone calls with Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Dmytro Kuleba, respectively. During the calls, the latest developments in the crisis between Russia and Ukraine were reviewed.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed Qatar’s concern over the escalation and its repercussions. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the dispute through constructive dialogue and diplomatic methods and follow peaceful means to settle international disputes.
