The works of the Sixth Committee (Legal) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) concluded its 76th session, chaired by HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, in the presence of representatives of Member States. During the meetings, many topics of critical importance to the international community related to international law and commitment to it were discussed, in addition to considering draft international treaties referred by the UN International Law Commission (ILC), and resolutions issued by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). The Committee hosted a number of international law scholars and dignitaries to deliver statements and hold important dialogues with delegations participating in the work of the Committee on international law, including the President of the International Court of Justice and the President of the International Law Commission. During its work in this session, the Sixth Committee considered the submitted draft resolutions, which were adopted by consensus, the most prominent of which were the resolutions of Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism, Provisional Application of Treaties, Crimes Against Humanity, Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters, protection of the atmosphere, the Rule of Law at the National and International Levels, and other important decisions related to international law and international treaties and conventions, in addition to many priority issues for the international community, including measures to combat terrorism, rule of law, and reports of the United Nations ILC and UNCITRAL. The work of the Commission at its current session has been characterized by professionalism and objectivity, and witnessed sober legal dialogues and consensus in adopting resolutions. At its 76th session, the General Assembly elected Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to lead the Sixth Committee as Chairperson.
