Qatar's LNG production capacity to reach 126mn tonnes a year by 2027

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said on Tuesday that Qatar's liquefied natural gas production capacity will rise to 126 million tonnes a year by 2027.The Amir inaugurated the 6th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which is being held under the slogan “Natural Gas: Shaping the Future of Energy” at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.Speaking at the opening ceremony summit, HH the Amir renewed calls for further dialogue among member countries of the gas forum, as well as gas importers and exporters to ensure the security of global gas supply."To further promote our role in the production of natural gas, we are endeavouring towards increasing our LNG production capacity from 77 million tonnes yearly to 126 million tonnes yearly by 2027," HH the Amir said."Qatar has shown its support for a transition to an energy source with low emission, through its efforts to reduce the amount of carbon in the gas production chain. We opened the largest facility in the Middle-East and North Africa region, separating and sequestering carbon," he said."In the last two decades, the world has witnessed numerous changes in the energy map of which natural gas has occupied a large portion, for various reasons. It's the energy source that is the least harmful to the environment, among other fossil fuels," HH the Amir added.
