Qatar, EEAS hold 3rd dialogue meeting on human rights

Qatar's delegation to the meeting was headed by HE the Acting Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, while the European External Action Service delegation was headed by Head of Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Regional Policies Division at the European External Action Service Gabriel Munuera Vinals

The third dialogue meeting on the human rights situation between Qatar and the European External Action Service (EEAS) was held on Monday via videoconferencing. Qatar's delegation to the meeting was headed by HE the Acting Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, while the European External Action Service delegation was headed by Head of Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Regional Policies Division at the European External Action Service Gabriel Munuera Vinals. During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in the human rights situation in Qatar, especially matters related to expatriate and domestic workers, Qatar's commitment to the rights of workers in the FIFA 2022 World Cup projects, the legal reforms taken by Qatar to enhance the human rights situation, the preventive and precautionary measures that have been taken in the joint services sector since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to women's affairs, preparations for the Shura Council elections, and the efforts of Qatar in the field of combating human trafficking. Representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, Education and Higher Education, Public Health, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy participated in the meeting. In an opening speech on the occasion, HE Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud expressed his pleasure at the convening of the third meeting of the human rights group between the Qatar and the European External Action Service and said that the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic made this meeting take place via videoconferencing. HE Al Mahmoud also expressed his hope that this meeting, like previous meetings, will have an interactive and transparent dialogue on the topics included in the agenda to serve common goals in promoting and protecting human rights, and that its work will be crowned with success.
