Qatar affirms its firm stance against all forms of coercive measures in violation of international conventions

The State of Qatar affirmed its principled and firm stance against imposing unilateral coercive measures in any form, regardless of their reasons and the party that issues them, due to their violation of the UN Charter and relevant international laws and conventions, especially international human rights law.This came in the speech of HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, to the 48th regular session of the Human Rights Council during the interactive dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights Alena Douhan, regarding her report on her visit to the State of Qatar.He stated that Qatar's delegation thanks Douhan for her valuable visit to the State of Qatar, and that they value the fruitful and constructive discussions she held during the visit. He also extended the State of Qatar's thanks for her efforts in preparing the report submitted to the Council on the visit, saying it was characterized by professionalism and objectivity, in reflecting the repercussions and impact of the blockade and unilateral coercive measures that have been imposed on Qatar since 2017 and their impact on human rights.He affirmed that based on the developments related to the outcomes of the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council and the Al Ula Declaration, which was issued by the summit January 2021, it was agreed to end the blockade and coercive measures that were imposed on the State of Qatar, and it was also agreed to restore relations between the State of Qatar and the four countries. Bilateral committees were established to discuss a number of issues in order to implement what was agreed upon in the declaration.HE Al Mansouri added that the State of Qatar has welcomed this declaration and its subsequent developments, based on its firm conviction in the feasibility of constructive dialogue to resolve differences by peaceful means based on the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty and independence of states, stressing in this regard that reaching this agreement would reflect positively to strengthen the institutional role of the GCC, to consolidate stability in the region, and to strengthen the bonds of the Gulf societal fabric that was affected by the crisis, which in turn will be reflected in the further promotion and protection of human rights in the region.He said that Qatar hopes that this crisis will be a lesson to draw from and a catalyst for more cooperation and solidarity to achieve a better future for the solid relations between our countries, and to prevent a recurrence of this crisis that affected all our peoples.He expressed the State of Qatar's support for all the recommendations contained in the report of the Special Rapporteur, hopping that it will find its way to implementation and affirming Qatar's continued support for her mandate and its readiness to cooperate with her to carry out her tasks within the framework of this mandate optimally.
