A London, Ont. school board meeting that had COVID-19 protocols on the agenda was disrupted when police were called to deal with approximately 100 anti-vaccine mandate protesters.
Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) trustees were meeting Tuesday night at the One World Thames Valley International Welcome Centre, next to Louise Arbour Public School, when they were interrupted at around 7:30 p.m.
Protesters gathered outside the building, chanting and carrying signs, including one that read "Hands off our children!"
The TVDSB has so far followed provincial guidelines requiring staff to get vaccinated or to take COVID-19 tests twice a week. It had not yet made a decision on mandatory vaccinations for students.
The meeting Tuesday had several motions deferred from earlier in September, including "affirming that the board supports COVID-19 vaccines" and that they be added to the list of compulsory vaccinations for all eligible student.
That position is being advocated by the Ontario Public School Boards' Association
The crowd outside the meeting included people of all ages, including young children. One protester was seen wearing a t-shirt with the PPC logo on it.
