Police investigate fatal Sunday shooting in downtown Kitchener as a homicide

Waterloo regional police are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday in downtown Kitchener as a homicide.
Police received reports of multiple shots fired outside a business in the area of Queen Street South near Charles Street at approximately 10:20 p.m.
An 18-year-old Kitchener man was found with injuries from a gunshot wound when officers arrived. Police said he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police remained in the area Sunday evening as the investigation continued.
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5'10 with a thin build. Police said he was wearing jeans, a dark sweatshirt with a hood cinched tightly around his face, as well as a surgical mask.
Police said the suspect was last seen fleeing the Queen Street and Charles Street area on foot.
Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident, police said and believe the suspect may be armed. Police are asking the public if seen, to not approach the man, but call 911 immediately.
Members of WRPS Major Crime Unit are investigating. There will be an increased police presence in the area while police do a canvass of the neighbourhood for witnesses and information.
