Pedestrian struck by Saskatoon Transit bus hospitalized with serious injuries: police

A pedestrian has been sent to hospital with "serious injuries" after being struck by a Saskatoon Transit bus near the University of Saskatchewan, police say.
In an email, police said officers responded to a report of a bus hitting a man, 30, at about 10:45 Tuesday morning at the intersection of College Drive and Cumberland Avenue North.
The City of Saskatoon said in a news release that Saskatoon Transit is co-operating with a police investigation, and no charges have been laid against the transit driver.
Saskatoon Transit is conducting its own internal investigation to determine the root cause and preventability of the accident, standard practice in the event of a collision.
"Counselling services have been made available to the operator and our transit team affected by this incident," the city said.
In an email, the University of Saskatchewan said it is "reaching out to those affected" and pointed to supports on campus including the Student Wellness Centre and Student Affairs and Outreach.
It said faculty and staff support was available through MindBeacon or LifeWorks.
P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking for 50 substitute bus drivers, and it'll be recruiting at three job fairs on Saturday, June 8. The job fairs are located at the Atlantic Superstore in Montague, Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown, and the bus parking lot of Three Oaks Senior High in Summerside. All three run from 9 a.m. until noon. Dave Gillis, the director of transportation and risk management for the Public Schools Branch, said the number of substitute drivers they're hiring isn't unusual. "We are always looking for more. Our drivers tend to have an older demographic," he said.
