P.E.I. to see ‘significant snowfall’ starting Monday
CBC
Islanders could be in for another slippery commute with more winter weather expected across the province.
A special weather statement is in effect for P.E.I., with Environment Canada warning of a winter storm that is expected to bring significant snowfall, strong winds and blowing snow.
The weather agency is tracking an “intense low-pressure system passing south then across eastern Nova Scotia,” with snowfall expected to start on P.E.I. by Monday evening and continue until around noon on Tuesday.
All three counties could see between 15 to 25 centimetres of snow and snowfall may transition to rain in eastern parts of the province early Tuesday morning.
The storm is also expected to bring higher than normal water levels along the northern and eastern coasts.
Northeasterly wind gusts could potentially reach 60 to 80 km/h, making for reduced visibility in blowing snow.
The statement suggests residents plan ahead in case of school closures and have snow removal equipment — like shovels and blowers — prepared in advance.
Islanders are also encouraged to continue to check Environment Canada’s website for any changes or updates.
