P.E.I. to avoid major snowfall, strong winds still expected

P.E.I. just might be spared the worst of an incoming storm — but that doesn’t mean Islanders are completely out of the woods when it comes to snowfall and strong winds.
“Sometimes the trend is our friend and that looks to be the case here, thanks to an eastward trend in this storm's projected path over the last 24 to 48 hours,” said CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.
“With the storm now expected to pass further to our east, P.E.I. looks to avoid significant snow, although it will still be quite windy.”
The latest forecast shows as much as five cm of snow for western areas, while central and eastern P.E.I. could get between five to just over 10 cm.
Snowfall is expected to start Sunday evening and continue through to Monday.
Scotland is forecasting some blustery conditions that could impact visibility for drivers.
“A strong northerly wind with peak gusts potentially topping 70 km/h Sunday night through Monday morning, will likely result in some blowing and drifting snow, particularly for eastern areas where amounts near or over 10 cm are possible," he said.
Environment Canada has not yet issued any special weather alerts or advisories, but Islanders are encouraged to continue to check its website for any changes or updates.
