Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal to undergo massive expansion, introducing advanced medical facilities and enhancing patient experience.
The upcoming Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Goshamahal will be spread over 32 lakh square feet and accommodate 2,000 beds, bringing it in line with global healthcare standards, said Minister for Health C. Damodar Raja Narasimha while announcing the development on Thursday. Simultaneously, he stated that the heritage building’s long standing structure would be rebuilt in a modern manner to enhance patient care and medical efficiency.
The new hospital will be constructed over 26.30 acres in Goshamahal, expanding its specialised departments from 22 to 30. Advanced units for organ transplantation, dermatology and high-tech surgical procedures will be introduced.
Designed to accommodate the daily influx of 3,000 to 5,000 outpatients, the hospital will introduce streamlined counters and spacious waiting halls to manage crowds more effectively. A dharmashala within the premises will provide free accommodation and meals for patient attendants, ensuring their comfort during hospital stays.
A key focus of the hospital is improving patient experience and streamlining healthcare delivery. Each department will have dedicated operation theatres with attached ICU and post-operative wards. Additionally, a centralised diagnostic hub on the ground floor will ensure faster testing and results, reducing wait times for critical diagnoses. Addressing traffic and accessibility concerns, the facility will include a two-floor cellar parking space to ease congestion for visitors and hospital staff, as per a release from the health department.
Sustainability and environmental consciousness are integral to the hospital’s blueprint, with solar-powered systems, landscaped green spaces and wide peripheral roads enhancing accessibility while minimising ecological impact. Other notable additions include a 750-seat auditorium and dedicated hostels for medical students.
The expansion will also support medical education with new colleges for nursing, dental and physiotherapy studies, contributing to a steady supply of trained healthcare professionals. To enhance safety and security, the campus will house a fire station and a police outpost.
“This project is not just about expanding Osmania General Hospital, it’s about restoring its legacy while setting new benchmarks in medical excellence,” the Minister said.
