New GST rates: List of goods and services which are expensive now

Now, packed foods like flour, milk, curd and paneer and unpacked ones, including rice and wheat, when packed, will be brought under the 5% slab. While solar water heaters, leather products and hotels charging Rs 1,000 or less per day for stay will come under the 12 per cent slab.

The new Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, which were revised during the two-day GST council’s 47th meet held last month in Chandigarh, came into effect from Monday.

It was decided in the meeting, headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, that packed foods like flour, milk, curd and paneer and unpacked ones, including rice and wheat when packed, will be brought under the 5% slab. While solar water heaters, leather products and hotels charging Rs 1,000 or less per day for stay will come under the 12 per cent slab.

# A 5% increase on packed foods like milk, curd and paneer; unpacked ones including rice and wheat when packed.# A 5 % increase also on dried leguminous vegetables, makhana, wheat or meslin flour, jaggery, puffed rice, organic food.# 5 %GST on hospital rooms with rent above Rs 5,000.# 12% GST will be levied on hotels charging Rs 1,000 or less per day for a stay.# Maps and charts, including atlases, will now become costlier with 12% GST on them.# Solar water heaters, which were under the 5% bracket, will now come under the 12 % slab.# Finished goods like leather products will also come under the 12 % bracket now.# Tetra packs will now attract 18 per cent GST.# 18 per cent GST on fees charged by banks for the issue of cheques (loose or in book form).# Printing, writing and drawing ink, drawing instruments will attract 18 % GST# LED lamps will also be expensive with an 18% tax.# Services such as work contracts for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plants and crematoriums will also come under the 18% tax slab now.

# Renting of trucks, goods carriage where the cost of fuel is included, which were under the 18 per cent bracket earlier, will now attract 12% GST.# Ostomy appliances and transport of goods and passengers by ropeways, which was under the 12 per cent slab earlier, will now come under the 5% slab.# Electric vehicles, whether or not fitted with a battery pack, will come under the 5% slab# GST will be exempted for the transport of passengers by air to and from northeastern states and Bagdogra in the economy class.# The GST will remain exempted from unpacked, unlabelled and unbranded goods.
