Key services across public sector banks in India faced disruption on Tuesday as the nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions, entered the second day. The two-day strike was earlier called by the UFBU to protest against the government's proposal to privatise two public sector banks. Over 10 lakh bank employees working in public sector banks had joined the protest on Monday, according to the UFBU. The strike comes a month after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government intended to privatise two public sector banks (PSBs) as part of the government’s disinvestment plan.
