MSNBC Host Sounds Alarm On Donald Trump 2.0: ‘It’s Where We Are’ Right Now

"It’s not where we’re headed," warned Ali Velshi.
MSNBC’s Ali Velshi on Sunday delivered what he described as a “crucial” reality check about the ongoing “collapse of democracy” in America under President Donald Trump.
The concept is a “strange, almost surreal thing” because it can be “abstract and hard to recognize in the moment” until it begins to affect people directly, Velshi explained.
Velshi pointed to a series of recent examples: from Trump’s deployment of National Guard units to cities that never requested them and federal judges’ rulings treated as optional to political opponents suddenly facing criminal probes and media outlets softening coverage.
“Each new abuse is justified as temporary, necessary, even an emergency,” Velshi noted. “Until one day it’s not temporary at all. Until one day the justification stops altogether because one’s power is absolute and no longer feels the need to explain itself.”
Velshi argued that while each attack on democratic norms may appear like an outlier, combined the system is now “unrecognizable.”
