
Mridangam maestro Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam honoured

Mudhra Award of Excellence presented to Mridangam maestro Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam at Mudhra 30th Fine Arts Festival.
Mridangam maestro Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam was conferred the Mudhra Award of Excellence at the inauguration of the Mudhra 30th Fine Arts Festival here on Sunday.
Industrialist and president of Mudhra Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti said, Mr Bakthavathsalam is one of the finest Mridangam exponents and his sishyas have become gurus now. “I have enjoyed listening to him perform in concerts,” he added.
Mridangam maestro Mannargudi A.Easwaran said, “Mr Bakthavathsalam and I have known each other for decades now and he has set high standards. He plays with precision and perfection and has come a long way and accomplished so much.”
Mr Bakthavathsalam said he was delighted to receive the award. He noted that Mudhra has promoted and given opportunities to several youngsters and recognised many artists.
Sangeetha Mudhra Awards were presented to Aathreyee Krishna (Vocal) V.Bargava Vignesh (Violin) and Karthik Krishnamoorthi (Mridangam).
Secretary of Mudhra, Mudhra Bhaskar said, the organisation has completed three decades of service to fine arts. “We have been web streaming all live programs for over a decade now to reach more audience,” he said. Vijaya Thayanban, Member Secretary, lyal Isai Nataka Mandram also spoke during the occasion.
