A vehicle drove through a crowded holiday parade in Waukesha, Wis., on Sunday, injuring more than 20 people, the local police chief said.
Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said the suspect vehicle had been recovered and there were no further threats after the incident in Waukesha, which is about 32 kilometres west of Milwaukee.
"A red SUV drove into our Christmas parade that we were holding downtown. More than 20 individuals were injured as a result of this incident," Thompson told reporters.
Authorities have identified a person of interest in the case, he added, without giving further details.
Thompson said some of the injured were taken to hospital by ambulance, others by police and still more by family and friends.
A live video feed of the parade from the city of Waukesha, as well as videos taken by parade attendees, showed a red SUV breaking through barriers and speeding into the roadway where the parade was taking place.
Mayor Shawn Reilly told Milwaukee television station WITI that he does not believe there is any current danger to the public.

With jagged cliffs rising from the Arabian Sea, the Strait of Hormuz is striking in its scenery — and these days, its emptiness. This resource superhighway, which normally hosts more than a hundred of the world’s largest oil and liquid natural gas (LNG) tankers every day, has seen no more than a handful all week.
