Berlin: Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, has affirmed that the minimum wage law will directly benefit more than 400,000 workers and their families abroad, making Qatar the first country in the region to introduce a non-discriminatory minimum wage, as part of a series of historic reforms of the country’s labor laws.
In a press release, the Ambassador said that the new law will apply to all workers of all nationalities and in all sectors, including domestic workers. He added that to ensure the strict compliance with the minimum wage, the government is enhancing the detection of violations, enacting swifter penalties and increasing the number of surprise inspection visits. He pointed out that the law also stipulated the formation of a specialised commission that will ensure the application of the minimum wage, and propose adjustments, in consultation with different government bodies, experts, workers and employers.More Related News
