Doha, Qatar: Under the patronage of Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, the Ministry organised a workshop titled “National Objectives of the National Biodiversity Strategy.” This event is part of the Early Action Support Project for the Global Biodiversity Framework – Qatar, implemented with the support of the Global Environment Facility and in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme.

Participants in the workshop reviewed the updated National Biodiversity Strategy, which included new national objectives and proposed initiatives. The workshop also featured introductory presentations on the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Abdul-Latif Al-Muslamani, stated on the occasion of the workshop’s launch that the Ministry places great importance on protecting biodiversity, considering it a fundamental pillar for the sustainability of environmental resources and a guarantee for achieving food and water security and human well-being. He noted that these efforts support the implementation of the environmental development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Dr. Al-Muslamani clarified that the workshop aims to review and update the national objectives within the National Biodiversity Strategy for the period 2025-2035, enhancing their alignment with the requirements of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s strategy. He indicated that through this project, the Ministry seeks to develop an integrated and comprehensive strategy for biodiversity conservation, based on the latest international scientific practices and adopting the principle of active participation from various national entities, including governmental and academic institutions, civil society, and the private sector.
