Manitoba Superstore workers ratify new deal that ensures labour peace until 2028

Employees at Manitoba Superstores have ratified a contract that will ensure labour peace between 11 stores and about 3,500 workers for the next five years.
In a vote that took place online over the past four days, members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 832 approved a new collective bargaining agreement that runs until 2028, union president Jeff Traeger said.
The deal includes a 5.6 per cent wage increase, retroactive to Sept., 28, when the tentative deal was initially reached, he said.
Another 3.3 per cent wage increase is coming on March 31, Traeger said. Another seven per cent worth of wage increases are spread out over the last three years of the deal, he added.
"A lot of it is upfront because of the inflationary environment that we live in and because the employer needed to make up some some ground," the union president said in an interview on Sunday.
The new deal also includes signing bonuses, some wage top-ups and more scheduling flexibility, Traeger said.
Negotiations over the contract moved quickly and went smoothly following a strike vote on Sept. 11, he said.
The union is now focused on obtaining a new deal for 400 workers at 11 No Frills stores in Manitoba.
