Former New York State Deputy Attorney General Alvin Bragg is expected to become the next Manhattan district attorney after his closest competitor, Tali Farhadian Weinstein, conceded the race Friday.
In the heavily Democratic borough of Manhattan, Bragg is also expected to win the November general election, which would thrust him into one of the most closely watched criminal investigations in the country: the prosecution of the Trump Organization. In court Thursday, New York prosecutors indicted the Trump Organization and its affiliated entities, along with its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. The 15-count criminal indictment accused the defendants of participating in a years-long scheme that allowed Weisselberg and other executives to receive "off-the-books" compensation and evade taxes.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
