A man and a teen boy are in life-threatening condition after police believe they were struck by one vehicle and may have been thrown into the path of another vehicle in Mississauga on Thursday.
The collision happened on Millcreek Drive near Erin Mills Parkway, west of Millrace Court, in an industrial area, according to Const. Tyler Bell-Morena, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police. Emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 5:25 p.m.
The man is in his 60s, while the boy is younger than 16, Bell-Morena told reporters near the scene. The two are believed to be related to each other, he said.
Police believe a southbound white Chevy SUV hit the two pedestrians and the pair were then potentially thrown in front of a northbound Volkwagen. The two pedestrians were attempting to cross the roadway, he said.
Bell-Morena said the teen was found trapped under the Volkswagen and firefighters extricated him from it. He was taken to a local hospital, where he has undergone emergency surgery. The man was also taken to hospital.
Both drivers remained at the scene and are co-operating with police.
Several people called 911 and many stopped to deliver first aid, police said. Workers were leaving an industrial building nearby when the collision occurred, he said.
One of the 911 callers was inside one of the vehicles involved, according to Bell-Morena.
Officers taped off a large area as they investigated the collision on Thursday night. Belongings of the pedestrians, including their shoes, were strewn on the road.
Roads in the area were expected to be closed for hours on Thursday night. Police are urging the public to avoid the area.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashboard camera footage is being asked to come forward to police.
