Man charged after Toronto woman assaulted on Vancouver's seawall

Vancouver police say a man has been charged in connection with an assault in Coal Harbour earlier this month.
News of the arrest came after a Toronto woman shared details on social media of a violent attack on Vancouver's seawall.
In a video posted to TikTok on Tuesday, a woman says she was walking not far from her hotel in Coal Harbour when a man said something to her, ran at her, grabbed her jacket and threw her to the ground.
She says she was able to fight the man off and get away, but he continued his pursuit.
The woman said he smashed her phone when she tried to call 911 and started striking her in the head, adding that at one point she blacked out.
CBC News tried to contact the TikTok user, but has not heard back.
Vancouver police confirmed an incident matching the details outlined in the video, saying it occurred in Coal Harbour on April 15 at 12:30 a.m. Peterhans Jalo Nungu has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and remanded, police said.
The BCPS confirmed a person with the same name was charged on April 15 in connection with the Vancouver incident and appeared in court that same day. He was released on Wednesday.
The B.C. Prosecution Service (BCPS) also confirmed a person with the same name was charged in Surrey on April 14 with assault of a peace officer, uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm to another person and uttering a threat to cause damage to property. He appeared in court that day and was released.
His next scheduled court appearance is on May 20.
