A male was shot by police in Markham early Wednesday morning after officers responded to a welfare check call, York Regional Police say.
Police say the shooting happened on Buchanan Drive, between William Saville Street and Village Parkway.
Officers were responding to a call for a welfare check at around 4:40 a.m., York Regional Police said in a post on X.
When they arrived, they found a male "actively attacking" a female. At some point, the male was shot, the post says.
Both the male and female were transported to a local trauma centre.
Police are expected to give an update on this incident Wednesday morning.
