Livid Rangers goalie sparks benches-clearing fight with Red Wings after loss
NY Post
A benches-clearing fight broke out between the Rangers and Red Wings after the final horn rung out on the Blueshirts’ 2-1 home loss Sunday night.
Detroit forward Mason Appleton shot the puck into the Rangers’ empty net after the game ended, and that didn’t appear to sit well with Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick, who stopped 40 of the Red Wings’ 42 shots in the defeat.
Quick went after Appleton in the Rangers’ end of the ice, and soon players from both teams rushed over as a larger skirmish began.
Lucas Raymond scored the winner for Detroit with 3:47 remaining in the third period at MSG.
Mika Zibanejad tied the score with a power-play goal in the middle of the second period.
The Rangers’ loss snapped a three-game winning streak. They’re now 1-7-1 at home this season.

Suddenly, someone had hit a rewind button and everyone had been transported back seven months. It was early spring instead of late fall, it was broiling hot outside the arena walls and not freezing cold. Everyone was back at TD Garden. There were 19,156 frenzied fans on their feet begging for blood, poised for the kill.
