London: Liverpool finally landed Newcastle striker Alexander Isak on Monday in a British record £125 million ($169 million) deal after a protracted chase for the Sweden star that dominated the Premier League transfer window. Isak agreed a long-term contract with the English champions after they finally convinced Newcastle to accept an improved bid. "I feel amazing. It's been a long journey to get here. But I'm super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for," Isak said.
Liverpool's remarkable summer spending will pass the £400 million mark, although there have also been significant departures including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Newcastle last week signed German international striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record fee reported to be worth up to £69 million.
That paved the way for the potential departure of Isak, who scored 27 goals for Eddie Howe's team in all competitions last season.
The Magpies have also reportedly agreed a deal to sign Yoane Wissa, who on Sunday urged Brentford to "keep their word" and allow him to leave.
