KTR demands murder charges and ₹1 crore compensation for the family of a murdered infant in Telangana's Kummera Jatara incident.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao condemned the ‘killing’ of a two-month-old infant in Kummera village of Nagarkurnool district, calling it an incident that has left Telangana shaken with grief and shame.
Speaking after visiting the victim’s family in Nagarkurnool on Wednesday, Mr. Rama Rao held the Congress government responsible for what he described as unforgivable silence over the attack and demanded immediate filing of murder charges against the eight accused and their arrest without delay.
Mr. Rama Rao said anyone extending support to those involved in the crime, be it the Chief Minister, local MLA, or MP would be morally complicit in protecting the killers. He insisted that the accused must face the maximum punishment, including the death penalty if warranted, and should under no circumstances be allowed to walk free.
He demanded that the State government provide ₹1 crore compensation to the grieving family. The BRS leader accused the government of attempting to divert the investigation by misusing administrative authority and influencing the police.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, National BC Welfare Association and MP (Rajya Sabha) president R. Krishnaiah expressed deep concern over the attack and demanded swift action against the accused. The BC associations visited the grieving family on Tuesday.
Mr. Krishnaiah said the eight members involved must be arrested and remanded to judicial custody without delay and sought the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. He said that violence against BC communities had been rising across Telangana and criticised the government for failing to curb caste-based attacks.
