Several key routes into the downtown core are closed this morning because of an ongoing incident in the East Village, Calgary police say.
The Reconciliation Bridge, the Fourth Avenue flyover and the Fifth Avenue flyover are closed in both directions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, officials said in a release early Thursday morning.
Police said there is no risk to the public but that the routes need to be blocked in order for emergency crews to work.
"Please plan alternate routes as we anticipate significant delays impacting access to downtown," the release said.
An investigation by the Transportation Safety Board has determined the death of a pilot boat deckhand near St. John's was caused by a confluence of factors including a damaged flotation device, a flawed tether system and a minimum staffing level that left one person responsible for driving the boat and rescuing him from the water.
