The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) inaugurated Monday the mural "Friends of Qatar and Cuba," by Cuban artist Michel Lopez in Building 15 opposite Wisdom Square. The inauguration was attended by Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, HE Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Doha Ambassador Oscar Leon Gonzalez, and several ambassadors accredited to the country. This mural is part of the Katara project to decorate several buildings in Katara. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said that the inauguration of the mural comes within the joint cooperation between the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) and the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Qatar. Al Sulaiti noted that Katara hosts an Embassy of Cuba corner which was inaugurated some time ago and embodies the close relationship between the Qatari and Cuban peoples. The General Manager explained that the sports mural symbolizes a Qatari child and a Cuban child, with a football between them. He also pointed out that the inauguration comes at a time when the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 becomes ever near. Dr. Al Sulaiti noted that the inauguration of the murals in Katara is a cultural project that aims to shed light on various cultural, heritage, and artistic topics. On that point, he elaborated that there are murals on Qatari heritage, and others on the environment. This is part of Kataras message to extend the bridges of communication between peoples and make the Cultural Village an umbrella for creativity and innovators from all over the world. For his part, HE Cuban Ambassador reviewed the strong relations between both countries, praising all efforts made to strengthen them. Ambassador Gonzalez explained that this artwork symbolizes the friendship between the two peoples and that this cooperation was preceded by many joint cultural projects. His Excellency pointed out that this was the first visit for the Cuban artist, Michel Lopez, to the Middle East and that the artist wanted this work to express the friendship between both countries by linking it to the most important event of this year: the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The series of artistic murals that adorn several Katara buildings were executed by Qatari and international artists.
