Jason Crowley moves up to be Windsor’s new top cop
CBC
Jason Crowley has assumed the top job at the Windsor Police Service.
He's been a deputy chief since 2022 when he was named head of operations in an acting role. In 2023, he was permanently put into the position.
Crowley has served with the police service for more than three decades. His career started as a cadet with long stints working as a constable in the patrol and investigations divisions.
He takes over for Jason Bellaire who announced in February he’d be stepping down in November — midway through his five-year contract.
Bellaire was the second consecutive chief to resign before the end of their term.
Members of the Windsor Police Service Board welcomed Crowley as the new police chief during a Monday morning announcement at police headquarters stationed in the southwestern Ontario border city’s downtown.
In May 2023, Crowley pleaded guilty to speeding and received a fine of $352 after being pulled over in the early morning hours of Jan. 7, 2023. He was travelling 111 km/h in a 70 km/h.
Crowley didn't face internal discipline. Mayor Drew Dilkens, the police board chair, said Crowley "has gone through enough" and the board wasn't considering actions against him.
More to come.
