Damascus: Israeli forces fired live ammunition on Thursday towards a group of Syrians near the town of Al Rafid in the western countryside of Quneitra province, according to Syria's state news agency.
SANA reported that Israeli troops opened fire on civilians who were on their farmland close to the disengagement line west of the town. No injuries were reported.
The agency said the incident followed an incursion a day earlier, when an Israeli force made up of three military vehicles advanced from the entrance of a town in southern Quneitra. During the operation, troops reportedly fired machine-gun rounds and illumination flares from the western Tel Al Ahmar position towards eastern Tel Al Ahmar.
Israel has carried out repeated operations in southern Syria in recent years, which Damascus said constitute violations of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The Syrian government has repeatedly called for Israel's withdrawal from occupied Syrian territory, insisting that all Israeli measures in the south are null and void under international law.
