Israel pauses some fighting and airdrops resume as fury grows over starvation in Gaza

Facing growing international condemnation over Palestinians starving to death in Gaza, Israel’s military is making a series of moves that it says will allow more aid into the enclave. Follow for live updates.
• “Tactical pause” in fighting: The IDF announced a “tactical pause” in military activity today in some areas of Gaza. The move has been welcomed by the UN, though humanitarian workers warn short-notice aid windows may not be enough to save suffering Palestinians. • Aid corridors: The Israeli military said designated “secure routes” will also be set up to enable UN and aid agency convoys to deliver food and medicine across Gaza. • Starvation crisis: Six more Palestinians have died from starvation in the last 24 hours, Gaza’s health ministry says, bringing the total to at least 133 since October 2023. • Controversial aid airdrops: Jordan and the UAE have dropped more aid into Gaza following Israel’s airdrops yesterday. The method has been sharply criticized by humanitarian groups as expensive, inefficient and dangerous. President Donald Trump said Sunday that the US will provide more humanitarian assistance to Gaza while reiterating false claims that Hamas is stealing aid. The US president added that he “took a lot of heat” for distributing that aid. Pressed about the images of starving children in Gaza, Trump said, “It’s terrible.”
