Inside Nick Sirianni’s new approach to Eagles offense as struggles mount
NY Post
Nick Sirianni is going back to his roots before facing one of his former teams.
With the Eagles’ offense struggling to find an identity, the Super Bowl-winning head coach Sirianni was more involved in the offensive preparations this week, according to an ESPN report. That includes speaking up in meetings and presenting material alongside embattled offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.
The Eagles are riding a two-game losing streak into Monday’s game against the Chargers. Sirianni was a Chargers offensive assistant from 2013-17, including two seasons overseeing quarterbacks and two overseeing wide receivers.
The Eagles are trying to avoid a similar collapse to 2023, when they lost five of their final six regular-season games and were bounced out of the NFC Wild Card playoffs. That led to the dismissal of then-first-year offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, who is drawing comparisons to Patullo.
Despite an 8-4 record and a high probability of winning the NFC East for the second straight year, something feels off compared to last season, when the Eagles were hot at the end of the season and went on to win the Super Bowl. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore became the Saints’ head coach.
With A.J. Brown frustrated by his touches, an offensive line wading through injuries and Saquon Barkely not breaking off the big plays that he did last season, the offense ranks No. 24 in total yards per game (304.8), No. 23 in passing (196.3), No. 22 in rushing (108.5) and No. 19 in scoring (22.5 points per game).
