A 37-year-old man died by suicide at the Whitehorse jail in December, the Yukon Coroner's Service confirmed in a news release Monday.
The inmate died at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre on Dec. 23, 2024.
An inquest will be held into his death. Under the territorial Coroners Act, inquests are mandatory for deaths that occur while a person is in custody at a correctional centre.
The inquest on the man's death will be called in the coming months, the coroner's news release confirmed.

Environmental group Greenpeace is calling for more transparency on the part of Canada's largest pulp and paper company, saying it has received millions of dollars in government funding without providing the public with details of how that money is being used or sharing its plans for the future of Canada's forests.
