India and the European Union are set to elevate their long-standing strategic engagement with the signing of a Security and Defence Partnership (SDP) at the 16th India-EU Summit scheduled on Tuesday (January 27, 2026).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold delegation-level discussions with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and European Council president Antonio Costa.

Earlier on Monday (January 26, 2026), Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal confirmed that “official-level negotiations are being concluded, and both sides are all set to announce the successful conclusion of FTA talks on January 27,”. A “successful India” is in the world’s interest, said visiting European Union leaders.
The EU-India FTA conclusion marks the end of a two-decade-old process, after talks were first launched in 2007. With bilateral trade already crossing $136 billion, the sources also said that this would be “one of the biggest” bilateral deals in the world.

Insurance penetration and density are often misunderstood and do not reveal how many families are insured or whether they would be financially secure if the main earning member were to die. The real issue is not reach but adequacy, as households may have life insurance but not enough cover to replace lost income, leaving them financially vulnerable.
