Impaired charges dismissed against a RCMP officer

Charges against an off-duty police officer related to an alleged case of impaired driving from a year ago have been dismissed.
Const. Travis Parker Plant, an RCMP officer previously stationed in Glovertown, was involved in a single-vehicle crash in October 2024. It happened on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside Glovertown.
In a statement at the time, the RCMP said officers arrived on the scene around 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2024.
"He was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than one and a half times the legal limit," the statement read.
Plant, 34 at the time of the crash, faced two charges related to operating a vehicle while impaired.
However, his defence attorney made a Charter application claiming the search related to the collection of breath samples was illegal. The Crown conceded, and this week in Gander Provincial court no further evidence was called.
Judge Mark Linehan then dismissed the two charges on Thursday.
In a statement to CBC News, the RCMP said Plant has been suspended with pay from his role as an officer since April 3. He will remain at this status "subject to the outcome of court and internal review processes."
