Director Wes Anderson pinpointed what's so "fascinating" about the president's proposal for Hollywood movies.
Famed director Wes Anderson made a mockery of Donald Trump at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday over the president’s proposal to impose 100% tariffs on movies made outside the United States.
“Can you hold up the movie in customs? I feel it doesn’t ship that way,” quipped Anderson, igniting laughter at a press conference for his upcoming film “The Phoenician Scheme.”
Anderson — an American filmmaker known for iconic movies like “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” — notably shot part of his latest film in Germany last year prior to its world premiere at Cannes on Sunday.
His comments arrive weeks after Trump took to his Truth Social platform to blast Hollywood studios for shooting films overseas due to tax incentives, describing such moves as “a National Security threat” while announcing his plan.
Anderson, when first asked about the president’s proposed tariffs at his movie presser, replied, “I thought you said he was giving us a plug or something. Did Trump see it?”
