How antisemitic remarks overshadowed San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie event aimed at promoting the city's economic recovery and housing development.
A moment that should have been focused on San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie's goals to promote policies aimed at helping the city's economic recovery and housing development was instead overshadowed by a woman's antisemitic remarks.
On Feb. 25, Lurie and other local leaders were promoting the mayor's new housing proposal, which would cut the city's transfer tax in half, in hopes of attracting new housing developers into the city. During this event, a group of protesters was present, opposing the proposal by chanting "tax the rich."
But that quickly changed after a woman started chanting an antisemitic remark, "Tax the Jews," according to the Mayor.
Shortly after the event, Lurie took to social media to condemn the antisemitic statements he and other local leaders heard on Feb. 25.
"This was an event I put on with Supervisor Mahmood, labor leaders, and dozens of workers to announce a plan that creates more jobs for those workers and housing for San Franciscans," Lurie posted on X.
