Hamilton police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2022.
Investigators said a man between 30 and 40 years old was killed, following an "incident" that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday in the Stinson neighbourhood.
Police shared few details about the homicide in a series of tweets posted around 9:40 p.m.
The posts said there was a large police presence near Tisdale Street and Erie Avenue and that a dark sedan had been seen leaving the area.
At the time, police said the victim was unidentified and they were working to learn more about the suspect.
"We're continuing to gather suspect and suspect vehicle information," said spokesperson Const. Krista-Lee Ernst, when reached by phone Monday morning.
"Homicide detectives worked throughout the evening and the scene was cleared around 1:30 a.m."
Ernst did not share any more information about the victim or the homicide itself, saying police anticipate holding a media update later in the day.
