Gulf Times strongly condemns the killing of veteran Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli occupation forces while she was covering their brutality in Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday morning.
Abu Akleh was a distinguished journalist known in the Arab world for her bold coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The killing of prominent journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in broad daylight while she was wearing a press vest underscores the seriousness of this crime. She was covering Israeli raids on Jenin in the occupied West Bank when she was hit by a live bullet in the face. This heinous crime is a part of the Israeli occupation's efforts to obscure the truth and silence voices that speak about the violence and crimes committed against Palestinians,” Faisal Abdulhameed al-Mudahka, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf Times, said in a statement.
Journalists such as Abu Akleh risk their lives to keep the public informed about the crimes committed against Palestinians on the ground every day. Their work deserves to be recognized and their safety protected in line with international humanitarian law, which forbids attacks on civilians.
