EU–India FTA: Will the mother of all trade deals be announced today?
India Today
Senior EU leaders have described the proposed agreement as one of the biggest and most complex trade deals the bloc has ever attempted, with some calling it the "mother of all deals".
India and the European Union appear to be at a key moment in their long trade talks. After years of slow progress, both sides now say they are close to concluding negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement, or FTA.
The deal is being discussed alongside a broader push to deepen security and defence ties. Senior EU leaders have described the proposed agreement as one of the biggest and most complex trade deals the bloc has ever attempted, with some calling it the “mother of all deals”.
India and the European Union are expected to announce the conclusion of negotiations for the long-pending FTA during their summit in New Delhi.
The talks have gained urgency at a time when global trade routes are under stress and exporters are facing higher tariffs in some major markets.
Along with trade, both sides are also set to finalise a Security and Defence Partnership, marking a wider shift in their relationship.
The proposed FTA is expected to offer relief to Indian exporters affected by higher duties in the US and other regions.
