Drainage water accumulation at old RMC yard in Mysuru irks traders

The traders also shared their concern over the growing mounds of uncleared garbage in the APMC’s sub-yard.

Traders at the old Regulated Market Committee (RMC) yard situated off Sayyaji Rao Road in Mysuru are up in arms over accumulation of drainage water in the premises, which is hampering their operations.

The rains that lashed Mysuru on April 29 night had worsened the woes of traders, who are forced to put up with not only slushy drainage water in front of their shops, but also the foul smell emanating from it.

As the old RMC yard is a sub-yard of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), a group of traders complained to the APMC authorities on April 30, and sought an early solution to their woes.

Syed Farooq Pasha, a mango dealer, said they had been urging the authorities for the last several weeks to act on the problem, but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. “It is difficult to run our business. The APMC authorities are claiming that the problem had arisen due to clogging of the drainage connecting the railways property adjoining the market area,” he said.

Sources in the APMC, however, said the APMC had built a new duct recently to clear the drainage water. Efforts will be made to clear the clogged duct and ensure that the drainage water does not accumulate in the premises, the sources added.

The roadside fruit dealers, who visit the APMC sub-yard off Sayyaji Rao Road, find it difficult to take their push carts and other vehicles inside the premises to load fruits or other materials as the lanes are clogged with drainage water.
