IndiGo also regained market share
Indian airlines witnessed a 28% rise in the number of domestic passengers ferried in March compared with the previous month, according to the DGCA's monthly report released on Wednesday.
The total number of air travellers who flew on domestic routes in March were at 1.06 lakh, while February saw 76 lakh flyers.
This is the highest growth seen in the recent past, particularly after the Omicron wave of the COVID-19 pandemic sliced off half the passenger count in January compared with December 2021.
IndiGo was able to regain some of its market share it lost in February. Its share rose to 54.8% in March after plummeting to 51.3% - the lowest since January 2021. The combined market share of the three airlines owned by Tata Sons AirAsia India, Vistara and Air India was at 24.2%, whereas GoFirst was at third spot with 9.8% market share, slightly ahead of SpiceJet at 9.5%.
