District level control room established in Thoothukudi to guide class XII students into higher education

Thoothukudi District Collector establishes control room to ensure all class XII students pursue higher education successfully.
Thoothukudi District Collector K. Elambahavath on Monday announced that, to ensure that all the students who have passed class XII examination in Thoothukudi district pursue higher education, a district level control room comprising 20 teachers has been established.
As part of the school education department’s initiative for the 2024-2025 academic year, “college dream” (Kalluri Kanavu) a higher education guidance programme under the “Naan Mudhalvan” scheme was conducted on Monday in Thoothukudi. The event was conducted for motivating students who have passed their class XII exams to pursue college.
Mr. Elambahavath who presided over the event, emphasised the importance of higher education among the students. He said that the “college dream” (Kalluri Kanavu) programme had already been conducted in April, even before the class XII exams results were released, with the motive of giving students first hand exposure to various colleges, their academic programmes, facilities and infrastructure.
He added that based on the data from the Tamil Nadu school Education Department, 1,408 students had been identified in the district, who needed special attention. These include school dropouts, economically weaker students and those who had lost their parents.
Out of the 1,408 students, 762 had already applied for various college courses, while the remaining 646 students were yet to apply, he noted.
Mr. Elambahavath stressed that the headmasters and teachers must work together to identify these students, explain to them the significance of higher education and ensure they apply to college. He added, “our target is to achieve 100% enrolment of all students who have passed class XII into higher education.
He further mentioned that the district level control room for higher education assistance would guide the students and ensure that they had chosen courses that match their score.
