Diamondbacks announcer Bob Brenly mocks Marcus Stroman’s du-rag
NY Post
PHOENIX — An attempted wisecrack from the Diamondbacks television booth left Marcus Stroman irked by its racial undertones Tuesday.
Diamondbacks analyst Bob Brenly, commenting on Stroman’s head covering under his cap, spouted: “I’m sure that is the same du-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets.” Stroman wasn’t amused. After the Mets’ 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks in 10 innings, he retweeted a fan who commented: “I am not surprised by this type of language towards African-American athletes. It’s the blatant racism and it’s been going on for a long time.”
SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.
