Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin is in as DHS secretary. Here is the news to know on Friday.
Welcome to the Daily Briefing. Here’s what’s breaking this morning:
Nicole Fallert here, listening to Harry Styles' new album. Up first Friday is the news of Kristi Noem's replacement. Don't forget to "spring forward" this weekend!
Kristi Noem will be replaced as the Secretary of Homeland Security by Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin following a slew of controversies, including "eye-popping" prices for warehouse detention centers to defending the killing of U.S. citizens by federal agents.
In a social media post, President Donald Trump called Mullin, a Republican, a "MAGA Warrior," referencing his professional mixed martial arts career and his identity as the only Native American in the Senate.
Trump’s ouster of his top immigration enforcement official adds to the turmoil around the administration's signature second-term initiative, again putting the spotlight on a deportation push that has faced setbacks amid intense backlash.
