
Covid-pandemic an opportunity to build an economy that respects environment: UK PM at Qatar Economic Forum

Doha: UK Prime Minister HE Boris Johnson stressed that the Covid-19 pandemic allowed the world to rebuild its economy in a way that respects the environment, safeguard the planet, and realizes the aspirations of the future generations of high-quality jobs that does not marginalize anyone.
Johnson was speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg and discussed his country's sustainable development efforts over the past 30 years. He said that, during that time, the UK cut its Carbon emissions by more than 40 percent even though it grew 78 percent. He also noted that 10 years ago, 40 percent of the electricity produced in the UK came from Coal, compared to 2 percent now. He added that the UK will eliminate the use of coal for electricity by 2024. He called on other world countries to cooperate in developing the global economy, saying that it was a matter of will give the technology to achieve that is now available. He also said that the United Kingdom is working with other friendly nations to ensure the efforts to leave a clean planet for future generations is successful.More Related News
