If you spot military vehicles in London and surrounding municipalities over the coming days, the Canadian Armed Forces wants you to know it's just a drill.
Starting Thursday, Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 31 Canadian Brigade Group will conduct driver training in the London area, including Thorndale, and Parkhill, along with the southwestern part of Essex County in Harrow and Kingsville.
The army says activities will include single-vehicle and patrol movement on planned routes until Sunday.
Military vehicles may be seen on Highway 401 through the region and south to Windsor, including Highway 3 and surrounding areas through LaSalle, Harrow, Kingsville and Essex County. There will also be military vehicles on Highways 14, 16, 24, and surrounding areas, including Thorndale, Ilderton, Lucan, Parkhilll, Strathroy, and Mount Bridges.
"Participating soldiers may be seen with unloaded weapons, as no ammunition of any kind will be present. Participants will remaining within their vehicles, except for any required maintenance and resupply," said Andrew McLaughlin, the Public Affairs Officer for 31 Canadian Brigade Group.
"This important training is being conducted in order to maintain and further develop the skills of Canadian Army Reserve soldiers in armoured reconnaissance operations, and to practice discipline, safety and effectiveness while operating specific vehicle platforms within local areas."
The army says all measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience to the public, though some areas may be inaccessible during exercises. The public is being asked to use caution when approaching military vehicles.
Intelligence regarding foreign interference sometimes didn't make it to the prime minister's desk in 2021 because Canada's spy agency and the prime minister's national security adviser didn't always see eye to eye on the nature of the threat, according to a recent report from one of Canada's intelligence watchdogs.
