
Canada's Leylah Fernandez outduels Pavlyuchenkova to advance at Indian Wells

Leylah Fernandez outlasted ninth-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday night in Indian Wells, Cali.
Fernandez, the U.S. Open runner-up, fought off a break point in the eighth game of the third set for a 5-3 lead. Pavlyuchenkova held to trail 5-4 before Fernandez served out the match in which she trailed a set and a break.
Fernandez is winning in doubles, too. She and partner Coco Gauff have reached the quarter-finals.
Auger-Aliassime, the No. 7 seed, struggled with his serve throughout the match, hitting seven aces but suffering seven double faults, too.

The 21-year-old Montreal native saved five-of-nine break points in the second-round loss.
Ramos-Vinolas, 33, won 83 per cent of his first serve points and 73 per cent of his total service points.
