A Florida Keys boat captain has been arrested on manslaughter charges in connection with the parasailing death of an Illinois woman back in May. Two children, including the woman's son, were also injured in the incident.
Authorities arrested 49-year-old Daniel Gavin Couch Thursday on one felony count of manslaughter in the death of 33-year-old Supraja Alaparthi, and five misdemeanor counts of violation of commercial parasailing statutes, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said in a news release Thursday.
FWC South Bravo Regional Commander Major Alberto Maza said Couch showed a "negligence and disregarded for public safety" when he took a group of 12 people, including Alaparthi, her 10-year-old son Sriakshith Alaparthi, and his 9-year-old friend Vishant Sadda, out on the boat on May 30.
