SEOUL, March 22 : South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has named economist Shin Hyun-song to be the next central bank governor, best known for correctly predicting the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, to tackle surging debt and drive growth in Asia's fourth-largest economy.

Shin, head of economic department at the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), would replace the incumbent governor at the Bank of Korea, Rhee Chang-yong, whose term ends on April 20, a spokesperson at the presidential Blue House told a briefing on Sunday.
